Gold Coast 2026

One night isn't a lot, but it can make a whole lot of difference

This year, I’ve decided to participate in the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout again.

To be honest, this year will be significantly harder for me personally, as I am currently undergoing cancer treatment. The side effects of treatment mean that sleeping on concrete in the cold for a night will be physically challenging and extremely uncomfortable.

But the reality is, it’s only one night for me.

Right now on the Gold Coast, homelessness is at crisis levels. The most recent data estimated that at least 1,828 people in our region were experiencing homelessness, and that figure is widely considered an underestimate due to “hidden homelessness” and the worsening housing crisis.

Many people are battling serious physical illnesses, mental health challenges, trauma, domestic violence, or financial hardship,  all while sleeping rough, in cars, temporary accommodation, or unsafe environments. Unlike most of us, they don’t have the comfort of returning to a warm bed, a secure home, or a safe place to recover or accessing safe and sanitary toilet and wash facilities.

The Gold Coast has also seen a sharp increase in demand for homelessness support services, with local organisations reporting more people than ever seeking help.

If one night of discomfort for me can help raise funds that contribute towards safe accommodation, meals, support services, and long-term housing solutions for people doing it tough on the Gold Coast, then it’s absolutely worth it.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any support, donation, or share to help make a difference. Every contribution counts
