Join with me in raising money and awareness to combat homelessness!

I dislike the cold! I really do!! What bothers me more than being personally cold, is the number of people who can’t just get out of the cold because they are homeless!

I’m asking you for money to help us alleviate this terrible reality in our lucky country.

If watching me freeze is not enough incentive, consider. In Australia there are 116,427 people homeless on any given night. This includes 43,552 young people under the age of 25, and 18,625 aged 55 and over. Each year more than 123,000 parents and their children don't have a safe place to call home.

And for many people homelessness is a hidden agony. An estimated 15% of Australia’s 116,427 people experiencing homelessness are ‘couch-surfing’ in the homes of family, friends and acquaintances; or sleeping in a car.

This is so timely, Sophia. Our local volunteer-run shelter shut its doors when COVID hit, further reducing already desperately limited choices for those sleeping rough. And Shaun, thanks so much for sharing your story. Homelessness needs a human face. Your resilience and strength in coming through some pretty frightening lows in recent years is an essential tale to tell. More power to you, you beautiful man.

You're such a wonderful person Sophia.. Helping out the homeless is so important at the moment , especially as we getting into winter months.I've had some challenging times over the last few years and intermittently homeless and in a rehab. Don't get me wrong, I have for fabulous sisters and Friends that I could have asked for help, but my mental health and alcohol dependence has been a bit of a challenge for me. I resist asking for help when I need it. I've learnt a lot in the last year so I now will ask for help when I need it which is great. Even though it's been a problem all my life, over the last few years since my mother passed away . But being retrenched and having enough money to be able to support myself and somewhat my family for 5 years I was lucky enough to spend the last 5 years looking after her with my wonderful younger sister and family. Like she did for us for the first 5 years and all our lives. There were so many people I could call on at these down times but with my mental health issues and not wanting to ask for help I would sleep in a park for two weeks at a time and to be quite honest drinking too much alcohol and obviously an issue that made me unwell . I had problems before this anyway but this sent me into a spiral The grieving process really took a toll on me and I have spent a lot of time with some other homeless people and learning their stories. As a society we really need to step up to this. I'm hoping with what's going on in the world at the moment that we're coming out of it through difficulty but in a better place of care and love for people We are humans of all races, colour, religion and creeds; all with different stories, But a common theme currently is adversity and resilience . We are all humans and we're all hopefully kind but imperfect in many ways. But that's OK because that's what makes us ,us At the moment I'm glad to see people are helping each other out but it's going to be very difficult for people at the moment especially people that can't get jobseeker or job keeper . I'm hoping it's changing for the better in terms of being kinder to each other. I'm hoping this is going to be a sea-change of people being much more mindful of humanity and we're all people living our lives as best we can . right now empathy , compassion, kindness and understanding is the most important thing and we are lucky to be in Australia because what's happening around the world in other places I won't even mention is disheartening and saddening.Especially the USA when they need leadership they've got a dopey moron. Much love Shaun
