Participating in their 6th Vinnies CEO Sleepout
One night isn't a lot, but it can make a whole lot of difference
There are so many people who need our help, but to me the idea of not going home every night is just horrible. That's why I'm happy to help and why I love this event. I worked for quite a while at the Vinnies soup kitchen at Christies Beach, and wow it was an eye opener to see how many people came through there every night, all with their own stories.
That's why we opened Café Outside the Square on Whitmore Square in Adelaide, a purely not-for-profit venture. We help homeless people and other disadvantaged groups, by providing real-time training opportunities in all facets of hospitality operations, ie barista, kitchen, customer service etc. Our pay-it-forward philosophy also extends to our menu, so that when our customers buy our Square Meal of the day, they are then buying two meals for the homeless that night.
I also own a company called Buyologists, and we help companies save money by buying better. We help them in particular to negotiate better deals on all their significant overhead costs like say power, phones, freight, finance, print, insurance, waste, consumables, etc.. We charge only if we help them save so ours is a true win-win model.
I am fortunate to love what I do. I am also a hubby and dad and those are my favourite jobs of the lot!
So far this year I helped provide
