I'm fundraising so that no-one has to go without shelter or a meal
The no-strings-attached support my family received thirty years ago is my motivation for participating in this year's Vinnies CEO Sleepout.
Those of you who know me well also know of my father's serious mental illness, something that he has struggled with his whole adult life.
As children and teenagers, my brother and I would visit Dad at Kings Cross. With a Disability Support Pension as his only income, we had many lunches and dinners provided by charities like Vinnies' Matthew Talbot Hostel.
The Talbot, the Wayside Chapel and Rough Edges were unusual places to grow up, but they were my father's kitchen, lounge room and social network. Each time we visited, we got a meal, but also saw the value of providing support without prejudice or judgement.
