A safe place to sleep should never be a privilege.
Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. Behind every number is a person. A family. A story that likely did not start this way.
As a mum, this hits differently. I talk to my daughter often about kindness, fairness and the responsibility we all have to look out for others. Participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout is one small way I can live that lesson, not just talk about it.
In my professional world, I spend my time helping people find opportunity, stability and a sense of belonging through work. But the reality is that without safe housing, everything else becomes exponentially harder. Employment, education, health, dignity. It all starts with a roof over your head.
For one night, I will step outside my comfort zone to raise awareness and funds for the St Vincent de Paul Society. It will be uncomfortable. It should be. And that discomfort is a reminder of the privilege many of us hold every day.
If you are in a position to support this cause, I would be incredibly grateful. Whatever you can afford to donate, it all makes a difference. Every contribution helps Vinnies provide practical support and real pathways forward for people doing it tough.
One night will not solve homelessness. But together, we can make a meaningful difference.
