A safe place to sleep shouldn't be out of reach... Let's change the future for women at risk

This year, Iโ€™m celebrating my 50th birthday.

As a single mother, Iโ€™ve worked hard to build a life for my family with a home, a career, an education for my children, and hopefully a safe and secure future for us all. But the truth is, I know that Iโ€™m only ever one unexpected event away from losing it all. And I also know I am not alone.

Right now, women over 50 are the fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. Many face financial hardship, housing insecurity, and even domestic violence. Having spent their lives raising families, caring for others, and working tirelessly, when life takes an unexpected turn they find themselves with little to fall back on. They are often left with little savings, no safety net, and nowhere to go. Itโ€™s devastating.

And itโ€™s invisible.

Every day, women are sleeping in cars, couch-surfing, or staying in unsafe situations because they have no other choice. And the truth is, the system isnโ€™t built to support them and leaves them with little dignity, independence or hope.

No woman should spend her later years in fear of losing the security and safety that comes with having a roof over your head.

And sadly, homelessness isnโ€™t just about older women. It impacts families, young people, vulnerable Australians (and their pets!) everywhere.

Iโ€™ve committed to the CEO Sleepout to raise funds and awareness for homelessness. Not just for older women, but for every adult and child facing homelessness. Every human deserves a safe place to sleep.

On a June night, and only for a single night, I will be giving up the comfort of my home for the harsh reality of sleeping outside. This is a small and relatively easy task that will be nothing compared to what thousands of Australian adults and children endure every single day.

My commitment to St Vinnies is to raise a minimum of $5,000. This money will go towards funding critical services like shelter, meals, and support to those who need it most.ย  To achieve this, I need your financial support. Will you help me to reach (beat!) my target? Even a small donation can make a huge impact for people who need it most.

I am putting my money where my mouth is and have kicked off proceedings with a personal donation. Click on the large yellow "donate" button to join me.ย

Every contribution counts no matter how big or small, and together we can create change.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
