Participating in their 1st Vinnies CEO Sleepout
Help me tackle homelessness and the risk of homelessness for women and children!
This year, I have been invited to partake in the 2024 Vinnies CEO Sleepout with fellow Chubb Colleagues.
This charitable event is about raising money and awareness for people experiencing homelessness, and those at risk of
homelessness. They are among Australia’s most socially and economically
disadvantaged. And something I'm determined to help breaking the cycle.
Homelessness can be the result of many social, economic and
health-related factors. Low educational attainment, experience of family
&/or domestic violence, ill health (including mental health issues), disability,
trauma, substance misuse, lack of adequate income, limited access to affordable
and available housing, are all factors that contribute to the issue.
As someone who has worked in underwriting within the
Insurance industry for 12+ years, I wanted to understand some statistics...
Data from Specialists Homelessness Services (SHS) Annual
Report identified that in 2022-2023, SHS agencies assisted with 274,000
clients. Of that, 162,000 (59%) were female. Of the 162,000 female clients,
104,000 (64%) were experiencing homelessness as a result of family and domestic
violence.
In respects to children who experience homelessness, 43,200 (16%)
of clients were children under the age of 6.
As a husband to my beautiful wife and 3 beautiful children (who are under the
age of 5) these statistics shocked me.
I want to raise $5,000 for St Vincent de Paul Society
charity, to support this cause, support those Australians in need, raise
awareness of the issue and bring home the realities of homelessness, particularly for those women and children affected by it.
To help me achieve my donation goal, I need your support!
Your donations help ensure existing homeless services, like food vans and
emergency support continue, expansion of the Vinnies’ existing program to
ensure those affected can access accommodation, meals and emergency assistance,
and fund new initiatives to help break the cycle!
Any donation towards my goal of $5,000 is welcomed. All donations above $2 are
tax deductible.
