There’s more to life than B2B SaaS
Once a year, in June, I sleep outside on concrete with nothing more than a cardboard box and a sleeping bag to raise awareness and some cash to help end homelessness in Australia. It’s a great concept and a great cause.
In Australia, a whopping 122,000 people are experiencing homelessness on any given night. Sadly, many of them are children under the age of 12.
We don’t need to be like other countries and let homelessness get out of control. We can help those in need by providing housing, meals, and support services. But with inflation, high rents, and poor housing affordability, sadly there isn’t enough government funding to support all of those in need.
When I did this last year I was lucky enough to meet several people who benefitted from Vinnies. What surprised me is that most of them weren’t the cliché you think about when you picture a homeless person.
One young woman I met had to leave home as a teenager due to her parent’s drug addiction. She lived lived in a car with her younger siblings, taking care of them for years. Another man worked in finance in Melbourne. He lost his job when he had to move back to Sydney to take care of his sick mum full-time. When she died, he became depressed and addicted until Vinnies helped him get clean, find housing, and now he works in finance again.
Pretty much everyone who is connected with me or who follows me is doing well in life. Please consider donating a small amount of money to help those in our society who need the cash more than we do—and help me hit my goal.
