I did the CEO Sleepout in 2011 and 2014 – it was quite an experience and so I would like to do it again in 2015. I’m keen to help the Vinnies cause as it really is worthwhile.
I am married to the beautiful and talented Ellecia. We have two children – Riley and our baby girl Charlie. I am CEO for a range of family companies, the two main ones being – Canstruct Pty Ltd and Force 10 Pty Ltd.
My father, Robin Murphy and my two brothers Adrian and Dan Murphy all work in the family business here in Brisbane.
Canstruct is a civil engineering and building company which provides construction solutions through planning, innovation and action. We build everything from Council buildings to bridges, tunnels, shafts, underground works, roads, industrial offices, schools, warehouses, jetties and wharves.
Our associated company, Force 10 manufactures an engineered building system that can resist cyclones, flood, fire, termites – you name it.
I’m extremely proud of our two companies and the hard work and excellent work ethic of our staff.
Our staff and subcontractors really are terrific, for example last year we raised more than $150,000 for Endeavour Foundation to enable them to build a new factory to provide meaningful work for 220 people with an intellectual disability.
We have also helped provide 6 wheelchairs to people in the Oro Province, PNG. In addition we have sent two container loads of educational equipment such as books, tables, desks and chairs to PNG for schools in remote parts of PNG.
In 2014 guided by Dad we created the Murphy Family Foundation and committed $1,000,000 to provide an ongoing legacy to charities that have a close connection to causes we care about as a family.
Being in construction is great because its very practical, hands-on and at the end of the day you actually build something that will be useful for future generations, like my little boy and girl.
