Participating in their 1st Vinnies CEO Sleepout

One night isn't a lot, but it can make a whole lot of difference

Every night, thousands of Australians experience homelessness. But it doesn't have to be that way. This year I'm taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise money for the St Vincent de Paul Society to support Australians in need. For one night, I'll be sleeping outside as part of an eye-opening experience to raise awareness and bring home the realities of homelessness.

To help break the devastating cycle of homelessness, I need your support. Will you help me to reach my target? Donating $100 can make a huge difference to people who need it most.

Dear Ian, Thank you very much for sacrificing your comfort night to join discussion on homelessness in Australia. Your value time will be always remembered and appreciated, more important than dollars figure. Sorry that I already donated to many charities this year and government needs tax revenue for paying off debts. Homelessness is very complicated issue. Casual workers and single mums spend years to apply hundred unsuccessful rental applications. More than five to dozen strangers are forced to live in a shared house with one toilet, losing personal privacy and compromising their children's safety. According to a recent survey, 45% of Australians have less than 1,000 dollars in saving while 20% have none at all. Lacking affordable housing would force millions Australians move to developing countries where they can own their home from less than 20,000 dollars or hotel room with swimming pool and breakfast from less than 20 dollars per night. That would harm GST tax revenue and local economic activities. Before I came to Australia ten years ago, I didn't know why some Australians had been in my birth country for dozen and dozen of years. But now I just started to understand after multiple unsuccessful rental applications. I hope all people are working together to solve homelessness in Australia. Regards, Ana
