One night isn't a lot, but it can make a whole lot of difference
Each night this winter in Australia, over 122,000 Australians will be without a safe place to call home, experiencing homelessness - some living on the streets, others in their cars, and on friend's couches. They are families, young people, older Australians, and veterans.Â
Homelessness is not new, but it remains a modern day tragedy that we can’t ignore.
That is why on June 19 in Canberra, this week, I will be taking part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout to raise awareness and funds for Australians facing homelessness. For one night, I’ll chose to be sleeping outside in the cold — not too pretend to understand homelessness, but to raise criticial funds for those who don’t have the choice. It’s a small contribution to a larger mission.
Vinnies delivers real support and provides more than a bed:
- crisis accomodation and meals
- support for women and children escaping domestic violence
- clothing, counselling and education, and
- long-term pathways out of homelessness and assistance to rebuild lives with dignity and hope
I’m proud to support this cause, and grateful to be in a position to do so.Â
