WA Sleepout

Register today for the 2012 Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday 21 June!

On Thursday 16 June 2011, the WA Vinnies CEO Sleepout was once again held at the WACA, Perth. Thank you to the 107 WA participants who took part in the event by registering to sleep out on a cold winter night. The 2011 Vinnies CEO Sleepout was a great success with over $600,000 raised in WA and $4 million nationally. To view photos from the event please click here.

In WA, Vinnies operates accommodation sites that support individuals who have a mental illness and/or are homeless or are at risk of homelessness. Vinnies along with the Rotary Club of Perth runs a resource centre for street present young people that provides access to essential support services including kitchen, laundry and bathroom facilities, mail collection, phone and Internet, referrals and information workshops.

Vinnies services in WA provide accommodation, support and friendship for over 100 people every night of the year and place an emphasis on breaking personal cycles of poverty by helping people learn to make better decisions through education and recreational programs. At the same time our dedicated volunteers continue to carry out home visitations offering assistance with food, clothing, utility bills and rental payments to help keep people in their homes.

The most common reasons for homelessness in WA are family breakdown and financial difficulty.

In WA alone there are almost 14,000 people who have no place to call home and over 5,000 young people are homeless, living rough or ‘couch surfing’ every night.

The first national Vinnies CEO Sleepout was held on Thursday 17 June 2010, with 99 West Australian business and community leaders braving the cold and sleeping rough for a night in winter. Their efforts raised a total of $474,185.
